Introduction

The obverse of the coin shows two uniformed carabiniers, one in service dress and the other in ceremonial dress. On the left, the carabinier in service dress stands upright in front of the Prince’s Palace, a symbol of Monegasque authority and tradition. On the right, the carabinier in ceremonial dress salutes, illustrating respect and devotion to the prince.
Above the carabinieri, the inscription “MONACO” can be read, highlighting the issuing country. At the bottom of the coin, the inscription “1817-2017 CARABINIERS DU PRINCE” recalls the bicentenary of this prestigious unit. In addition, these inscriptions underline the historical and symbolic importance of this celebration.
The names of the artist and the Paris Mint, “R. Calenghi” and “Monnaie de Paris”, are discreetly visible. These names refer to the designer of the coin and the monetary institution responsible for its production, respectively. In addition, the outer edge of the coin is decorated with the twelve stars of the European Union. This symbolises unity and harmony between the member states.
