Introduction
In 2019, Portugal issued a two-euro commemorative coin. It celebrates the 500th anniversary of the circumnavigation of the Earth by Fernão de Magalhães, known in French as Fernand de Magellan. To the left of the portrait are the dates “1519” and “2019”, marking the start of the expedition and the year of commemoration respectively.
Additionally, the name of the issuing country “PORTUGAL” is clearly visible at the top of the coin. Furthermore, the illustration includes the names “J. F. ABREU” and “INCM” at the bottom left. These names designate respectively the designer of the coin and the monetary institution responsible for its production. Additionally, the outer border of the coin is decorated with the twelve stars of the European Union, symbolizing unity and harmony between member states.
