Introduction
Monaco issued this two-euro commemorative coin in 2021. The theme is the tenth anniversary of the princely marriage of His Serene Highness Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene. This coin celebrates this important event in the contemporary history of the principality.
Coin description
The obverse of this coin shows the portraits of Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene. Their finely engraved profiles face the right. These dates mark ten years of their union.
Above the portraits, we find the inscription “MONACO” in a semi-circle. Below the portraits, we read “PRINCIPLE MARRIAGE”. This mention underlines the theme of the piece. Additionally, two intertwined wedding rings adorn each side of the inscription, symbolizing marital union.
The outer border of the coin features the twelve stars of the European Union. These stars represent solidarity and unity between member nations, of which Monaco is part of the monetary system.
