The obverse of the coin features a detailed image of Schwerin Castle. This majestic castle is a remarkable example of neo-Renaissance architecture. On each side of this inscription, the initials “F” at the top and “HH” at the bottom identify the engraving workshop and the Hamburg mint respectively.
The bottom of the coin bears the inscription “BUNDESREPUBLIK DEUTSCHLAND”, meaning “Federal Republic of Germany” in French. This recalls the origin and issuing authority of the coin.
